Beginning
the first machining
operation on a large
aluminum bearing casting. |
The
casting from the forging plant next enters the machining
phase.
In a large, well light lathe room equipped with the
most modern machinery, the casting is machined to exacting
dimensions.
The bearing, be it bronze or aluminum, now begins to take
its final shape.
An aluminum bearing will go directly to the milling phase
for the drilling of oil holes and dowel alignment pin
holes.
The
bronze bearing will go the pour room for application of
the babbitt surfaces before returning for final dimensioning.
