Machined, Milled & Drilled

The milling of the bearing to final dimension is perhaps the most critical of all our operations.

Computer controlled automatic lathes speed up production.

Odessa Babbitt Bearing Company combines the latest state-of-the-art computer controlled mass production lathes with the skill of talented individuals using top quality manually controlled machine tools to "hand finish" particular areas not compatible with automatic techniques.

Our automatic machines have a high degree of flexibility and a precise level of repeatability. The result is an end product of high quality produced at reduced cost -- and in a shorter time.

But as dependable and accurate as they are -- our automatic machines will not -- and cannot -- completely replace the skill and dedication of the individual technician.

The final touch -- precise milling of the crush.

Some of the final machining operations are precisely accomplished on manually controlled lathes after final shaping by the NC or CNC lathes.

Highly skills machinists continuously monitor such steps as the placement and dimenson of oil holes, dowel location holes, and the milling of the final "crush" fitting between the two halves of the typical split bearing. Thus the quality of our product is maintained at a highly critical phase in its manufacture.
